Travelling to Mexico
The most common way to go to the main resort and tourist destinations in Mexico is by flying. You can find many non-stop of direct flights to a wide variety of Mexican cities by major US airlines. You can book your flight with the help of a travel agent or you can simply go online and book a flight yourself. If you do your homework you will find that there is a tremendous variety in prices of air fare. Early birds usually get early bird prices which are really a bargain. You can also sometimes get very good prices if you have an impulse to go right away, or within a week or two. It is ideal to book a flight with a US or a Mexican airline.
Charter flights can offer rock bottom prices at times. On charter flights, however, it is possible for a charter operator to cancel a flight if there are a very few passengers in it and he can do this up to ten days before the flight. These charter flights don’t allow cancellation of reservations thought.
Combining airfare with a hotel package will give you a really good value. The hotels may not be the best known. You can do an online search on the different hotels and their locations. Cancun, Acapulco, and Ixtapa are just some of the destinations where you can get great package deals on.
Another kind of package is the guided tour, often of several cities and typically with hotels and transportation included. For those who have not explored Mexico or who speak little or no Spanish, a guided tour is ideal.
Taking a cruise to Mexico is a wonderful vacation treat, and they leave both coasts of the US and vary in how long they last. If you want something economical you can take the shorter cruises. Although cruises just give you a taste of Mexico compared to other vacation choices, it might just be the very thing that will whet your appetite.
If you want to go between cities, Mexico has an incredibly good network of buses. Many tourist ride the deluxe or first class buses which is complete with movies, comfortable sitting, rest rooms, and an easy schedule of many departures daily.
There are differences in driving conditions in Mexico from one highway to another. There can be traffic in some roads, but if you take the toll roads which are quite expensive, the traffic is light due to the price. It is not wise to drive between Mexican cities at night. At night you can be robbed or you can meet some road hazards like livestock lying on the road or vehicles with no good headlights.
